NAMA building, Podgorica, Montenegro

International settled competition for a technological hub building.

The conversion project of an old building in the historic centre of Podgorica, Montenegro, aims to revitalise a space with history, transforming it into a #creativehub for innovation and a #businessincubator •This new centre will become a beacon of creativity and progress, serving as a reference for the community and a symbol of contemporary innovation. Its design will be the perfect balance between the modern and the preservation of the past, maintaining the memory of the original building while being open to the needs of the future.

Architectural #concept: The building is conceived as a ‘lantern in the sky’, a metaphor that expresses its intention to illuminate and guide the community towards the future of innovation. This idea is materialised through a facade that protects the original structure of the building, dressing the skeleton and making room for large windows and open spaces that invite #collaboration and the exchange of ideas. The #skirt acts as a bioclimatic filter, a warm air chamber for the winter that transforms into a ventilation space in summer. At night, the building is a light in the urban landscape, projecting an aura of modernity and dynamism, reinforcing its role as a centre of creative energy a place where new ideas are born and transformed into businesses. The skirt is also a symbol for the female name of the old building #Podgoricanka and a tribute also to improve the women empowerment and entrepreneurship.

Although the approach is contemporary, the project will respect and preserve key elements of the original building, integrating some architectural details that evoke its history (like the first mechanical stair) and its entire armed concrete structure with its rhythm and form adding a new layer of functional modernity. The main idea is to design a building that resonates with the environment and the community and incorporates public spaces at all levels.

An architectural space designed with a holistic approach that not only physically integrates with its surroundings, but also fosters a deep connection with the surrounding #context
