Gorgonzola new urban Park
NàBITO Architects proposal for a new urban park in Gorgonzola, Milano.
International competition settled, Milan, Italy
The design of the new #urbanpark in #gorgonzola offers us the opportunity for deep reflection and debate regarding the renewed idea of the relationship between the citizens of a community to provide a harmonious coexistence. This idea aims to design in the proposed intervention area, a pacified island of resting and walking, completely pedestrian and bicycle friendly, that will serve as a powerful node of urban connection and social #cohesion and that can trigger resonance mechanisms generating a model to be emulated and developed in the whole neighborhood. The main objective is to promote soft mobility, completely disincentivize private vehicular traffic by eliminating parking areas.
It aims to enhance the strategic areas of the municipal territory by connecting the main urban spaces of the neighborhood with the entire city
through bicycle and public pedestrian mobility alternative to the use of private motor vehicles.
The idea is to “attract” the main axes of the neighbourhood within the project area by transforming them into paths that relate and give a hierarchy to the spaces and create different “holes” and squares of multiple and heterogeneous activities for the use of all age groups.
The project, in addition to upgrading , attracting visitors and giving new life to the park space, blends fluidly into its context. This system of spaces (defined by holes and pathways) lowers and rises to allow a multi-level promenade to define a varied “natural landscape” surrounded by trees. This generates a fresh, evocative, dreamy place completely surrounded by greenery that has the ambition to inspire the imagination of all its visitors.
The urban design focuses on three key aspects: safety, accessibility and #sustainability
The project has the will to stand as a connective urban node of urban and social integration, among the citizens themselves, but also stimulating tourism, amplifying the activities and functions of communication of the cultural and eno-gastronomic heritage (for example by inserting a small interpretation centre of Gorgonzola cheese production, a forum with kiosks for tasting and promotion activities, a museum of the city, etc.).
We would like to send a strong and clear message to the administration to help us, to permeate the contemporary idea that a city does not need private transport (that the car is a luxury good and not a basic necessity, that it pollutes, clutters up space, and that traffic and parking, whether wild or orderly, should be completely disincentivised in the central, polar and green areas of cities, offering alternative public services, limiting parking to inter-modal areas near metro or train stations or to peripheral neighbouring areas so as to enhance cycle and pedestrian networks throughout the territory.
These measures are seen as an incentive for social sustainability, enhancing civic sense and raising the standards of social behaviour that allow for a more peaceful coexistence in the long term.
